"Vanity of vanities, says Qoheleth, vanity of vanities! All things are vanity!" —Ecclesiastes 1:2

"What profit has man from all the labor which he toils at under the sun?" (Eccl 1:3) "Seventy is the sum of our years, or eighty, if we are strong, and most of them are fruitless toil, for they pass quickly and we drift away" (Ps 90:10). "We lived at the level of the flesh, following every whim and fancy, and so by nature deserved God's wrath like the rest" (Eph 2:3). We have inherited "the futile way of life" from our fathers (1 Pt 1:18). We have lived this futility and were about to pass this on to our children. How wretched were our lives! (see Rm 7:24) "Who can free" us? (Rm 7:24) "All praise to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord" we can be free (Rm 7:25).

Jesus is the Life (Jn 14:6; 11:25). "There is no condemnation now for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Rm 8:1). Jesus alone makes life worth living. He alone gives us abundant (Jn 10:10), eternal life (see Jn 3:16; 17:3). "What we have seen and heard we proclaim in turn to you so that you may share life with us" (1 Jn 1:3). "These have been recorded to help you believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, so that through this faith you may have life in His name" (Jn 20:31). Praise Jesus, the Life Who has saved our lives! Give your life to Jesus, the Life.

Prayer:  Jesus, make me "pro-life" in the full sense.

Promise:  "Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of heart." —Ps 90:12

Praise:  Sts. Cosmas and Damian, patrons of physicians, surgeons, and pharmacists, were twin brothers and physicians who provided to the sick free medical care. "From God the doctor has his wisdom...and God it was Who established his profession" (Sir 38:2, 1).
