stop mistreating god
“This is an evil age.” —Luke 11:29
The crowds had the privilege of seeing Jesus standing right in front of them and speaking to them (Lk 11:29). Yet they sought a sign from Him rather than seeking Him, Who was the Sign (Lk 11:29-30). Because of our fallen human nature, human beings tend to ignore Jesus or even forget Him after having met Him (e.g. Gal 3:1). How can we ignore, forget, and reject the One Who loves us so much that He died on the cross for each one of us? (Gal 2:20) How can we mistreat God by “crucifying the Son of God...and holding Him up to contempt”? (Heb 6:6)
Our egomania, addiction to self, and narcissism blind us to everything, including God, our rejection of Him, and our hardened hearts. How can we stop ignoring, forgetting, rejecting, and crucifying God, Who is Love (1 Jn 4:8, 16) and has died to save us?
The Lord breaks through this heart of darkness in many ways, especially through the Blessed Virgin Mary. For example, while He was hanging on the cross in the hour of terrifying rejection, Jesus turned to Mary and commissioned her to be a mother to His disciples (Jn 19:26) so that we would no longer abandon Him and would instead lead all people to love Him faithfully.
Stop mistreating Jesus. Mary will help “her offspring...who keep God’s commandments and give witness to Jesus” (Rv 12:17).
Prayer: Father, I know how much it hurts to be rejected. May I never again reject You, Jesus, and the Spirit.
Promise: “It was for liberty that Christ freed us.” —Gal 5:1
Praise: Steven, at first, was unable to share his faith with strangers, but found he was able to do all things with God (see Mt 19:26).
