family feud?

“This child is destined to be the downfall and the rise of many.” —Luke 2:34

One can tell what is important by what one’s enemy attacks. For example, in military invasions, the invading army often first attacks infrastructure such as bridges, supply chains, water and power sources. In the spiritual battle, Satan has placed a high priority on undermining the family. Holy families and marriages are absolutely essential to the rise of society (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2207), and the enemy recognizes this. So he ruthlessly attacks parents, children, and the conception of children. Satan attacks and perverts anything related to marriage and family. God even has a meal for families, the family meal of the Eucharist at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass (Catechism, 1348), and Satan fiercely attacks family Mass attendance.

So, don’t be surprised at the viciousness of the attack upon the family — including your own family. “Fight the good fight of faith” (1 Tm 6:12). Believe that Jesus longs to unite your family in Him. He desires to have a family reunion in heaven with no family members missing (1 Tm 2:4). Your battle is not against human beings, such as your family members, but against the principalities and powers of darkness (Eph 6:12). Pray, sacrifice, deny yourself, and love sacrificially so that your family members may become members of God’s family.

Prayer:  “I kneel before the Father from Whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name; and I pray that He will bestow on you gifts in keeping with the riches of His glory” (Eph 3:14-16).

Promise:  “Now, Master, You can dismiss Your servant in peace; You have fulfilled Your word.” —Lk 2:29

Praise:  “Give to the Lord, you families of nations, give to the Lord glory and praise; give to the Lord the glory due His name!” (Ps 96:7-8)
