life on the rock
“It had been solidly set on rock.” —Matthew 7:25
It’s tempting to rush through Advent and think, “I’ll get back to You, Lord, once Christmas is over.” During Advent, the temptation is to scurry around shopping, go to parties, and put up decorations. Such activity might be building your Advent on sand (Mt 7:26-27) — unless you do these activities as an outflow of prayerfully building your Advent on the Rock of Christ (Mt 7:24-25).
Advent is the foundation for Christmas. A wise builder will build on the solid foundation of Christ (1 Cor 3:10-11). If you trust in God and His love this Advent, you’ll be on the way to trusting Him during Christmas 2026, the new year 2027, and for the rest of your life.
So be still and know that He is God (see Ps 46:10, RSV-CE). Take the time to sit at the feet of Jesus and hear His words (Lk 10:39); that is the only thing necessary this Advent (Lk 10:42). Then act on His words and enter His Kingdom (Mt 7:24). Will you build Advent 2026 on the rock of silence and prayer, or will you rush through Advent on the sand of busy activities?
Prayer: Father, slow me down. Help me to have Advent Your way and prepare a straight path into my heart for You (Mt 3:3).
Promise: “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.” —Ps 118:8
