Semana 10 — Fear and Faith

"Fear is useless; what is needed is trust." —Luke 8:50

Domingo

"Do not fear, Mary. You have found favor with God. You shall conceive and bear a Son and give Him the name Jesus." —Lk 1:30-31

Conversation:

Father: Child, I commanded you 365 times in the Bible: "Do not fear"—once for each day of the year. I do not want My children to be afraid. This is not a suggestion but a commandment: "Do not fear." Decide not to fear. I will give you the power.
Child: I had resigned myself to live with some fear. I thought I had to. Everybody else is afraid. The world runs on fear. I don't know if I've ever been without some fear.

Response:

Trust God's word.

Lunes

"Do not fear those who deprive the body of life but cannot destroy the soul." —Mt 10:28

Conversation:

Father: Child, fearing Me is the beginning of wisdom (Ps 111:10). I don't mean fearing that something bad will happen to you. I mean that you have an awe in My presence. Fear of Me begins a process of ever-growing love for Me. When that process is completed, love pushes out fear (1 Jn 4:18).
Child: Father, I ask for the Spirit and the gift of the Spirit, fear of the Lord (Is 11:2).

Response:

Trust where you feel the greatest tension in your life.

Martes

"Will He not provide much more for you, O weak in faith! Stop worrying." —Mt 6:30-31

Conversation:

Father: Child, you don't trust Me. You won't let Me do much for you. You do too much for yourself. If you don't let Me father you in simple practical things, how will you ever build a trust in Me?
Child: I don't know how to let go. All I know is how to control. I'm afraid to have faith. Fear is pushing faith out of my life.

Response:

Trust God for your finances. Tithe (ten percent of gross income).

Miércoles

"Hence, all depends on faith, everything is grace." —Rm 4:16

Conversation:

Father: Child, you're saved by faith, not by works. You're working to cope with fear, but fear is overcome by faith, not by works. Coping is learning to live with the problem. Faith is able to remove the problem.
Child: I don't see what else I can do. I doubt...
Father: Child, listen to Me. Walk by faith, not by sight (2 Cor 5:7).

Response:

Trust Abba.

Jueves

"The heart of the king and the heart of the people trembled, as the trees of the forest tremble in the wind." —Is 7:2

Conversation:

Abba: Child, are you going to believe Me or the devil? All people have faith. They have to. But will you have faith in Me, the evil one, others, or yourself? I am always worthy of your faith.
Child: Abba, I decide to believe and not to fear. I make an act of my will, awaiting an act of Your power. In my weakness, Your power can reach perfection, if I but believe (2 Cor 12:9).

Response:

Trust in God alone (Ps 62).

Viernes

"Take care you remain tranquil and do not fear; let not your courage fail." —Is 7:4

Conversation:

Abba: Child, you're happy when you're free from fear. You're the good news in human form. Now that you're free from, what are you free for?
Child: Abba, I feel unemployed. For years, I have spent so much time and energy in being afraid. Now that's no longer draining me. I'm available for Your kingdom.

Response:

"Trust in Him at all times, O my people! Pour out your hearts before Him" (Ps 62:9).

Sábado

"Jesus likewise had a full share in ours, that by His death He might rob the devil, the prince of death, of his power, and free those who through fear of death had been slaves their whole life long." —Heb 2:14-15

Conversation:

Abba: Child, your greatest fear is death, but Jesus has overcome death. You were talking with Him earlier today. There's nothing to fear.
Child: Abba, I expected to spend my whole life in fear; now I'll spend it in thanks and praise. If I were to die right now, I'd be at peace. I'm not afraid.

Response:

Trust God for your future, death, and eternity.
